Linda Edmonson
Members who regularly read the race reports and results page of the Website will have heard of Linda Edmondson but many will probably not have met her. Linda is a prolific fell race runner who we recently caught up with to ask a few questions about her membership of Wrekin Road Runners and her love of fell running.
What job do you do?
IT Analyst for Stockport council.
How long have you been running, when and why did you start?
About 14 years ago. To get fitter for fell walking (so I could keep up with my husband Neil better) and just to see if I could. I think I thought I could lose weight as well, but that’s just not happened!
When did you join Wrekin Road Runners? What does it mean to you to be in the club and why are you a member when you live so far away?
6.5 years ago when I was working in Telford and went on occasional training runs with WRR. Membership was only £8 then and Ian Emery talked me into it. I like the friendliness and spirit of WRR and it’s easy to keep in touch via email/internet. Also, I’m too lazy to do anything but renew every year.
What is it that attracts you to fell running?
I love the countryside and am really just a fell walker who pretends to run.
What tips would you give to any member interested in giving fell running a try? Start with easy ones (category C (if you can find one) or B). Wear good grippy shoes for confidence. Never drop litter on the fells.
How do you run up some of those hills?
Most of the time I don’t – get my head down and try to walk fast.
What is your favourite race?
Forest Park Ladies 5K is a special race to me, but I think the Manx Mountain Marathon is my all time favourite.
What is your favourite training session?
Anything around Dunham Massey (NT park near where I live).
Where is your favourite place to run?
Hard one this – Anywhere with a view? Neil and I like to fit in training runs on our travels. This year we’ve enjoyed wonderful runs round the Sound of Man and on Islay and Jura.
What sort of running shoes do you wear?
New Balance for roads and Inov8 mudclaws/PB Walshes for fells.
What is your favourite piece of running kit?
Until I find the guaranteed non-chafing sports bra this would be my mudclaws.
What do you like to eat after you have run?
Nutrigrain elevenses.
Is there an event/race that you have not yet done that is on your bucket list?
On the roads - Tromso half marathon. On the fells - Fairfield horseshoe (I was going to do this 3 years ago but dislocated my elbow and messed up my back 3 weeks beforehand)
If you could choose anyone 'dead or alive' to go for a run with and chat to as as jog along who would it be and why?
Neil, because he’s always encouraged me and he’s fun to run with.
