The latest member to be featured in the Members Profile Section Andy Smith. Andy is 36 years old, Doesn’t identify as being a runner despite owning at least 4 different running shoes !
What do you do for a living? Sales manager for a local manufacturing company We make whiteboards cool again!
When and why did you start running? I was travelling to Birmingham everyday for work sitting on my backside all day and had a wedding to get fit for, nearly 3 yrs later im still running - that’s the impact our club can have on you
What is the best advice you have ever been given about running? It doesn’t get any easier ... you just get better at it ! If you did not run what do you think you would do with your time instead? I golf mainly so fit running in around that and the gym so possibly more golf !
When did you join Wrekin Road Runners and what does belonging to the club mean to you? September 2017 joined the club and its nice being part of something that’s more than just a run club the amount of non running stuff we do is awesome
You always seem to be training, what is your favourite training session and where is your favourite place to run? Favourite place to run is on holiday I’m more relaxed run better and it’s usually hotter weather ! As for the training every run is a training run in my eyes they all help me get a bit better at it
If you could go for a run and chat as you do with any person from history or alive today who would it be and what would you ask them? Ha I’d like to say Eliud Kipchoge but I would only get two words in before I couldn’t hack the pace!
What is your favourite piece of running kit? Running trainers - sneaker head at heart
Who or what inspires you and why? Lots of people inspire me we have some fantastic members at club that are real hero’s
What is your favourite (go to) food or drink after you have finished a long run? Like a strawberry nesquick myself but a guiness works just as well
What has been your favourite race to date and why? Cardiff half marathon this year - first time ever doing that distance everything Past the 7 mile mark was uncharted territory for me
What event / race that you haven't done yet is on your bucket list?
I think I’d like to do a marathon but would have to be a big one ! London New York , Boston , Tokyo etc
Do you ever listen to music when you run? If so what do you like to listen to to keep you going? Have a real eclectic taste in music so can listen to anything from upbeat dance music to some country rock ! Depends what type of run I’m feeling
What is the funniest thing you have ever seen whilst out for a run? Some of the clubs post run stretching chat can be pretty funny
